My dreams of an ancient time
Spellbound by the forest nightfall
Enraptured by dryad spirits
Guardians of the living stronghold
Birds and beasts hold court
Among the great vast living pillars
Arial spirits exude within autumn fog
See the beast within thy wrath
I hunt and stalk my prey
My tomb opens, buried at the mountains’ roots
Burning bright, ancestral torches light the way
I’ll know no peace til my kingdom is avenged
Give me strength to conquer with thy sword and spear
Soothsayers words, prophecies ‘midst frozen tears
Shed in helpless anger for the loss of our own
Energy crackles around me in the gloom
As I tread the paths hewn by the ancients
Lost wisdom fills my mind as the solstice brings no dawn
I gather power unto myself
Poised to unleash upon defiant bastard legions
Swept aside by the serpent’s wrathful spells
Touching the sacred quietus
Warmth of hearth greets us at the journey’s end
Valiant and victorious my brothers return
To the place of our birth, where our bones shalt lie
Among those of our fathers

With meat and mead we feast, but I gaze up at the moon

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74
True crime gets a blackened hardcore twist on the UK band's debut album, inspired by an unsolved mystery from 2013. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 23, 2022

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74
