We are the ones who dwelt here long ago
As constant as the river’s mighty flow
We are the children of the forest night
Instilled with primal nature we will fight
We give new meaning to the tales once told
Fealty sworn to Tyrant of the wild
Take my life, thy sorcery my guide
I walk with reverence through the oaken pillared hall
Towards the ancient altar where our fate was born
A rushing wind echoes through the ancient stone
The warrior strengthened now to take his mighty throne
Fealty sworn to Tyrant of the wild
Take my life, thy sorcery my guide
Save my soul from this living hell
Imbue me with elemental force
A lone wolf stands proud upon the hill
His breath steaming in the icy air
Guardian of this ancient realm
Succoured by spirits of those who came before
Nocturn resplendence, rise from desolate tombs
Dread spectres of ice and shadow grow
Sorrow chills their most ancient bones
As gnarled fingers reach hungrily forth
Noctambulant ghouls now arise with the moan of snow-laden winds
'Go now', the spirits shriek, 'and claim the throne for thine own'.
Where eternal wisdom and power sleeps
Fealty sworn to Tyrant of the wild
Take my life, thy sorcery my guide
Save my soul from this living hell
Imbue me with elemental force

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74
True crime gets a blackened hardcore twist on the UK band's debut album, inspired by an unsolved mystery from 2013. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 23, 2022

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74
